Graphcore, a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank Group, announced the establishment of its new AI Engineering Campus in Bengaluru, marking a major milestone in its global expansion. The initiative represents an investment of up to £1 billion over the next decade and will create 500 new semiconductor engineering roles in India.
The Bengaluru campus will serve as a core hub for AI computing innovation, advancing Graphcore’s mission to shape the future of Artificial Intelligence hardware and supporting SoftBank Group’s vision of becoming the leading Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) platform provider.
Graphcore is immediately hiring for its first 100 positions, including opportunities in Silicon Logical Design, Physical Design, Verification, Characterization, and Bring-up Engineering. This expansion builds on SoftBank Group’s ongoing commitment to invest in Graphcore—expected to reach £1 billion annually in the coming years—and will also see Graphcore’s UK workforce double to around 750 employees, focused on silicon design, software, and AI engineering.
Since acquiring Graphcore in 2024, SoftBank Group has launched a series of transformative AI infrastructure initiatives, notably the $500 billion “Stargate” project in partnership with OpenAI and Oracle. Engineers at Graphcore’s Bengaluru facility will develop next-generation semiconductor products for global AI practitioners, supporting breakthroughs in drug discovery, public health, environmental sustainability, and enterprise productivity.
SoftBank Group has invested over $12 billion in India over the past decade, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s technology sector.
“Choosing Bengaluru for our new AI Engineering Campus was an easy decision,” said Nigal Toon, Executive Chairman at Graphcore. “Even among India’s wealth of technical talent, Bengaluru stands out as the country’s innovation capital. Its ecosystem of world-class universities, fast-growing startups, and global technology leaders makes it the ideal home for Graphcore India.”
The company also highlighted the Indian government’s strong support for semiconductor development, including initiatives championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen national expertise in chip design and advanced manufacturing. Graphcore aims to contribute to this national mission by nurturing talent and driving innovation in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
