Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose as Managing Director, India, as the AI company prepares to open its first office in the country, signalling a deeper commitment to one of its fastest-growing global markets.
Ghose brings more than 30 years of experience in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise transformation. She joins Anthropic from Microsoft India, where she most recently served as Managing Director and led large-scale adoption of enterprise AI across key sectors, including banking and financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and government. During her tenure, she built high-impact teams, strengthened ecosystem partnerships, and advanced AI capabilities across India’s technology landscape.
“India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale,” Ghose said. “Indian organisations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety, and long-term impact matter as much as innovation. Anthropic’s mission strongly aligns with my belief that technology should empower people and create lasting value across India’s diverse languages and communities.”
Commenting on the appointment, Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, said Ghose’s experience makes her ideally placed to lead the company’s India expansion. “As we grow our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission,” he said.
Anthropic’s India team will work closely with policymakers, academic institutions, developers, and enterprises, supporting responsible AI adoption and building partnerships to address local challenges using AI.
India is a critical market for Anthropic, ranking as the second-largest globally for Claude.ai usage. According to Anthropic’s fourth Economic Index, Indian users demonstrate a strong technical focus, with nearly half of all Claude.ai interactions centred on computer and mathematical tasks, underscoring the country’s role as a major hub for applied AI development.
