Google has announced two major upgrades to its Search experience, aimed at making it easier for users to explore both simple and complex questions through a more fluid, AI-powered interface.
The company is rolling out Gemini 3 as the new default model for AI Overviews globally, delivering more advanced and accurate AI-generated responses directly on the search results page. AI Overviews are designed to provide quick, high-quality summaries for queries where users benefit from synthesised information rather than a list of links.
In addition, Google is making the transition from search results to conversation more seamless. Users can now ask follow-up questions directly from an AI Overview and continue the interaction through AI Mode, enabling a contextual, back-and-forth conversation without starting a new search.
According to Google, internal testing shows users prefer an experience that naturally flows into conversation, especially when tackling longer or more complex queries. Retaining context from AI Overviews during follow-up questions has also made Search more helpful and intuitive.
The updated Search experience combines quick snapshots for immediate answers with deeper conversational capabilities for exploration, while still offering prominent links for further discovery.
With these changes, Google aims to make Search more flexible, whether users are looking for fast facts like weather updates or sports scores, or diving deeper into complex topics through conversational AI.
