With support from Google.org, Wadhwani AI is announcing the expansion of AI-powered solutions in frontline healthcare and agriculture. The initiative focuses on strengthening last-mile delivery across India's health and agricultural systems. Key initiatives include:
HealthVaani: Introducing multilingual, conversational AI to support ASHA and Anganwadi workers.
AgriVaani: Scaling AI-driven advisories to farmers.
HealthVaani, a multimodal, multilingual conversational AI assistant. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development, HealthVaani is designed to empower ASHA and Anganwadi workers, the frontline personnel at the last mile of India's public health system. It aims to help these workers access accurate, context-aware health information instantly, especially in remote and resource-constrained areas.
Wadhwani AI has been building solutions to empower India’s agricultural systems. It’s AI-powered pest management advisory provided by CottonAce, a solution built with support from Google.org, has shown quantifiable improvements for farmers and is now being incorporated into India's National Pest Surveillance System.
Marija Ralic, Head of Google.org APAC, said, “We are committed to supporting India’s ecosystem to build scalable applications that address the country’s most pressing challenges. Wadhwani AI has been instrumental in this mission, demonstrating a deep commitment to building solutions that drive scaled, grassroots impact. Applications such as HealthVaani and AgriVaani are critical for impact, and we look forward to seeing how these innovations help empower India's healthcare and agriculture sectors.”
Speaking about the project, Shekar Sivubramanian, Head, Wadhwani AI, said, “Frontline workers, whether ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, or farmers, are the backbone of India’s health and food systems. Our focus has always been to provide them with practical and trustworthy solutions designed for real-world conditions. The support from Google.org enables us to responsibly leverage cutting-edge AI to develop multilingual, accessible solutions like HealthVaani and AgriVaani, which can effectively augment human effort at scale.”
Wadhwani AI is now developing Agrivaani, powered by Garuda, a new Indian language model for agriculture, with support from Google.org. This model will help build AgriVaani, a multilingual, AI-driven smartphone application for farmers and agri-workers. AgriVaani will provide contextually relevant advisories on crop and livestock management, pest detection, and climate-smart farming techniques. The goal of this initiative is to improve productivity, resilience, and incomes across the agricultural value chain. In line with its mission, Wadhwani AI will make the models and datasets open-source to benefit the wider ecosystem. These efforts reinforce Wadhwani AI’s commitment to creating ethical, inclusive, and scalable AI systems that strengthen public services and support India’s role as a leader in responsible AI deployment.
This initiative builds on Wadhwani AI’s growing footprint across India. Currently reaching over 150 million people through its bouquet of tech solutions, the organization has played a leading role in leveraging AI for social impact in areas such as health, agriculture, and education.
