Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad has inaugurated the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence on its campus, marking a significant step in advancing translational AI research, innovation, and education in India.
The institute also formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon and Ranjan Tandon for the establishment of the new school. The MoU exchange took place during January this year in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi, while Vinay Kwatra joined virtually from the United States.
The Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence will be established through a Rs100 crore endowment from Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, an alumna of IIMA’s PGP Class of 1975, along with Ranjan Tandon.
Positioned as a pioneering AI school within a management institute in India, the initiative will operate at the intersection of technology, management, and public impact. With a strong global outlook, the school aims to address India’s complex challenges through the responsible and effective application of artificial intelligence.
Anchored in IIMA’s legacy of leadership and institution-building, the school will focus on shaping how AI is developed, deployed, and governed to create long-term business and societal value. It is expected to play a key role in advancing the institute’s mission to redefine management education in an increasingly AI-driven world.
Envisioned as a hub for business-focused and translational AI, the school will bring together faculty, industry leaders, policymakers, and global partners to push the frontiers of AI research and application. Its research agenda will emphasise real-world, case-based problem solving, with a focus on developing deployable solutions, tools, and scalable systems to enhance decision-making and productivity across sectors.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among academic institutions in India to integrate artificial intelligence into core management education and research frameworks, aligning with the country’s broader push toward digital transformation and innovation-led growth.
